Our Expertise

Directional Drilling

Directional drilling is much more cost effective compared to digging a trench to replace or install any underground piping used for utilities, in our case installing fibre optics. Since the entire process takes much less time and much less dirt to replace when the project is finished, and it uses less machinery compared to a regular method. Less machinery means lower cost and less ground disruption.

Installing Utility Pathways

Horizontal pathways carry telecommunications cables from the main roadway to the vicinity of the work area being served. Horizontal pathways usually support a zone-distribution system. Fortel Installs pathways for both Civil and private utility construction.

Aerial Telecom Install

Aerial cable installation deploys fibre above ground on poles or towers removing the need for underground digging and is particularly useful when the ground is uneven, rocky or both. Aerial installation is generally much less costly than underground construction. Fortel has the equipment and solutions to tackle most aerial installs.

Vacuum Truck Services

Our Vacuum trucks are used for exposing underground utilities. Below installing many pieces of underground equipment, the ground must be excavated far enough down to create a solid foundation for the structure to be placed on. Underground utilities can include lamp poles, traffic lights, road signs, and even commercial grade trees for landscaping.

To prepare the ground for installation it is jetted with water then the vacuum truck sucks up the muddy product. This exposes the buried utility without the possibility of damage, as would be possible if a digging machine were used (i.e. tractor backhoe, tracked or wheeled excavator, ditch witches).

Vacuum trucks can also be used for cleanup of soil. For some instances, air excavation may be used in place of hydro excavation. Air excavation, also known as soft dig, uses compressed air to break up the ground and then vacuums up the soil into the debris tank. Air excavation is often used for locating underground electrical cables and gas lines. We also offer line flushing services where a conduit is blocked with debris or ice. Fortel has the equipment to dislodge the blockage.

Daylighting Utilities

Daylighting is typically used to inspect utilities for cracks, leaks, breaks and other types of damage or failure. Daylighting is also known as potholing. Daylighting, although necessary, is a high-risk operation which can potentially damage underground utilities if done incorrectly. Fortel has a fleet of vac trucks to offer these services.
